Annual comparisons of the economic activity of OECD countries are based on GDP per capita. But GDPs cannot be expressed in national currencies -- the comparison would be meaningless -- nor even simply converted into a single currency, for example the euro, using exchange rates, because differences in price levels between countries would not be taken into account. GDP per capita is often considered an indicator of a country's standard of living; however, this is problematic because GDP per capita is not a measure of personal income. Comparisons of national income are also frequently made on the basis of purchasing power parity (PPP), to adjust for differences in the cost of living in different countries. Current health expenditure accounted for 6.6% of GDP in the LAC region in 2017, an increase of around 0.09 percentage points from 2010. The OECD countries averaged a current health expenditure of 8.8% of the GDP in 2018.
